Types and characteristics of Touchscreen Systems

There are many types of Touchscreens. Considering the characteristics of each type, they are used in a variety of fields and applications. DMC mainly provides projected capacitive touchscreens and analog resistive touchscreens.

  • Resistive Touchscreen

The resistive film method has been the mainstream for a long time in industrial applications. This page introduces the methods and types based on the principle and structure.

Comparison of resistive and projected capacitance methods

Projected capacitance method Analog resistive film method
Operating principle
  • Electrodes are formed in a matrix on the panel
  • The capacitance between the finger and the electrode changes as the finger approaches
  • Touch position is detected by examining the change in capacitance increase between the vertical and horizontal electrodes
  • Upper and lower substrates with electrodes face each other through a gap
  • Touch pushes down the upper board and makes contact with the lower board
  • Detects the touch position by measuring the change in voltage upon contact
Strong point
  • High Durability
  • High Transmittance
  • Multi-touch Gestures
  • Improved design with Cover-Glass
  • Improved robustness with Cover-Glass
  • Flat Surface Design
  • Any input media can be used
  • High cost performance
  • Less susceptible to electrical noise
Weak point
  • Influence of ambient noise causes malfunction
  • Higher cost than resistive film
  • Durability is inferior to the capacitive method
  • Input needs to be thick.
